stephanie & i hit the affordable art fair in battersea, london this weekend. i must admit, i wasn't sure what to expect as i really don't 'get' most of the art that's classed as 'contemporary' but then again i actually reckon that no-one does.

my favourite artist (rob ryan) was showing some of his art so it was a done deal that i was going.

i managed to get a crafty pic of a piece of his work & ended up really enjoying most of the exhibitions. a lot of them were a little bit too weird for me but i did manage to come across someone whose work i fell in love with ...

dinah dufton works with plastic figures (mostly soldiers but also dinosaurs) and her work has a really sweet, child-like quality to it that both stephanie & i really liked !

since i collect hearts - this one was one of my favourites ...

here's the artist putting the finishing touches on her piece for the art show ..

here it is - a union jack made entirely from plastic dinosaur pieces. i really like it !

this is going to sound a little crazy but you are looking at the nicest tasting peanut butter in the world.

during my 18 months in south africa i developed an almost unhealthy taste for it. every gym session / yoga class was made better by a spoon full of this peanut butter just before.

my friend sandra was kind enough to send me two massive jars to see me through until january !

this is where most people start their everest trek's and this airport sees up to 500 passengers every day during their busiest period (october.)

sirens sound out for miles when planes take off or land & not too many planes can handle the 2,000 foot uphill runway that is fenced off at on end to prevent you falling from the edge of a mountain cliff.

as one pilot describes the take off :

When you take off, you go downhill and then the runway just disappears into the valley down below. If you don't get enough speed, you drop until you get lift and then hopefully get back up again.

pretty scary stuff.

ok. so the good news is that i went surfing in cornwall. last time i surfed i was 19 (not so long ago then) & it was in the indian ocean in my home town of durban, south africa. i think my core muscles were a little different then. slightly more sculptured abs & less stealth abs like i have now. anyhow, as i was saying ... not so long ago.

the water in cornwall was 11 degrees. and it was blazing sunshine. i got my board into the water & then a tiny lick of a sliver of a wave touched my foot. a shiver of hypothermia rushed through me & that foot went instantly blue. royal blue. i was pretty scared at this point. i had 3 hours ahead of me in that water. three. flipping. hours. jesus.

somehow i made it through the 3 hours. i even managed to stand on at least 7 of the waves (out of the 200 i attempted). i had salt water & sand in orifices that should never have salt water or sand. anyone who tells you surfing is like riding a bicycle is talking pure & utter SHIT. it's like i never ever saw a surfboard before in my life.

so here's proof that i did manage to stand at least once .....

and here, dear readers' - is the motivation behind that photo ....

meet kelly (surf pro from new zealand) - tell me you wouldn't stand if you had him in the water with you for 3 hours ??

friends are so important to me. they've got me through the bad stuff that happened over the last 2 years & even a few rocky moments before that ....

a couple of weeks ago in yoga my teacher told us :

'in order for human beings to feel loved & special, we should receive a minimum of 7 acts of affection every day. that can be a hug, a text message or even a smile from a stranger'.

it made me start to add up how many i get on a daily basis (and everyone in my office too once i told them!!) i haven't quite hit 7 yet but i have come close.

i got this email below from a close friend that i work with & it was just one of the special things that happened to me last week.

i really am truly blessed with amazing friends.

....last week as I was going through my CD’s I came across my Eros Ramazzotti CD which you made for me. It made me realise that we have been friends for a long time. I’m glad that despite the intervening years and your exciting journey we have remained friends. Everyone here keeps telling me what a lovely person you are...and it’s true.. so....Thanks babes!

anyone who knows me knows that i am a bikram yoga nut. i haven't been more than 2 weeks without bikram (or some form of hot yoga) in over 6 years.

just over a month ago i decided to set myself a little challenge - 30 days of hot yoga. every. day. yep. i was prepared to sweat a lot. 15 days into my challenge; my yoga studio launched their own challenge which naturally i signed up for. which meant 45 days of yoga. in. a. row.

this might have also accounted for my lack of posts .....

as of today i am on day 37 & going strong! i've come to love it & if i miss a day; doubling up the following day helps me stay on target. i've lost half a stone; my skin is amazing & my hair is sleek & shiny like my sausages.

i may extend it to 60 days .....

the restaurant recently won tatler's restaurant of the year 2010 & so it was a special occasion to go & try it out. it's called la chapelle (based on the fact that its in a converted church) & the food was scrummy.

we had such a lovely day here i drove up into london with penelope's roof down. bliss.

i've been dying to surf in cornwall; i used to surf growing up in durban, south africa but i imagine the water is a teeny weeny bit colder here ! so i booked a trip - sausages & i are off on a road trip beginning of october.

we will be staying in this amazing dog-friendly cottage in a town called polzeath, which is situated on the north coast of cornwall (close to newquay). it's called pebble cottage & it's the cutest cottage ever.

i'll be surfing with this highly recommended surf school called surf's up (ironic huh ?) & i'm super duper excited ! i doubt my core muscles & balance are anything like they were when i was 16 but a girl can dream.

i'll be eating here & here since they are the two most famous chef's in cornwall & i can't go all that way & not eat their food (its just rude). if jamie oliver is in his restaurant i will literally die. i. love. him.

and i most certainly will be ignoring my dairy intolerance for a few days & chomp my way through a few cornish cream teas since (again) it's awfully rude not to.

not sure how clear the image is but about 20 canadian geese stopped traffic in town today.

they were on their way to the pond, walking across the road. it was so lovely to see !
